Listen To The Hand… plays on the fact that most portrait sculptures have a glum expression and the ones which don’t usually look comic. This is predominantly the result of the lengthy sculpting process, in which subjects pose for many hours over many days, resulting in a relaxed, but uncommunicative, expression. Hands, however, can hold different positions more easily and so are better at communicating a person’s mood in sculpture.
