GRANNY SMITH VENUS & BRAMLEY VENUS
2009
2/3 life-size
Plaster
Adrian uses the apple as a symbol of purity, beauty and knowledge to encourage us to question how we view the human body. He adds complexity to this question by using an older model and giving her in one sculpture a granny smith, an apple renowned for its regular form and long shelf-life, and in the other sculpture a bramley, an apple better known for its highly irregular shape and sour taste.
